Flashback Friday - Dad

My poor old dad is nearly eighty and the wear and tear, to his knees in particular, is painfully obvious. It serves me well to remember that inside that imperfect body beats the heart of this proud and handsome Coldstream Guard.

The  young man staring out from this photo beneath his Bearskin had a whole life ahead of him. That life would include a 50 year long (and counting) marriage and the raising of children.

We may have had our differences over the years but I hope that he can be proud of the woman I have become as I am of the man he was and is now.

  2. Oh I love the idea of this post.

Today is an important and painful anniversary (my brother died) seven years ago today. I wrote a poem, about it on my blog actually - its weird that I should pass by here and see you flashing back too -

  3. OMG...How Cool! My great Grandad used to wear a very similar uniform...He was a Grenadier Guard. I'll have to try and get a photo...problem was their house was bombed in the blitz and they lost everything.

  5. Oh wow, that's SO cool Paula! Lovely that you have such great photos. This is why I love this link up so much. My Great Grandfather was a police officer who spent a lot of time with Winston Churchill - I think my parents have photos somewhere, I'll have to dig them out for a future flashback friday.
