Writing Workshop - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing (Aerosmith)

Two sleeping infants lying side by side in the bed they will remember always and return to often when they crave the comfort and warmth it offers, safely nestled between the protective bodies of their parents. The loving gaze of the mother is held captive by the beauty of her perfectly serene offspring. A small, pink pyjama clad leg is slung casually over the body of a baby brother.

The baby opens his eyes, blinking and trying to make sense of his surroundings. He raises his tiny arms and waves them excitedly. The movement causes his sister to stir. With thumb still planted firmly between moist little lips, she rolls towards him and snuggles closer. He grabs her untidy blonde hair with hands that he recently discovered will do his bidding and grips it tight. She wakes enough to allow her thumb to slide from its warm sanctuary and give her the freedom to pull the fist away from its prize. She remains holding his soft, chubby hand. Their fingers move together in an exquisitely choreographed dance, each digit a work of art sculpted from living flesh.

The baby's excitement builds. His legs kick with an exuberance that bounces his whole body on the springy mattress. He vocalises with his full repetoire of emergent sounds.

Just before the mother watches her husband's gentle face waking with a smile of pure joy, she takes a moment to glance at the numbers on her digital clock - it is time to begin a brand new day.
