Pre Shoes - Review

I've always loved dressing each of my five daughters, but the arrival of a son last year opened up a whole new world to me - the world of boy clothes.

It took me a while to get used to bypassing the pink and the frilly but now I love to head for the rails of shirts and trousers, and all things boyish and beautiful.

I was delighted to be sent a pair of Pre Shoes for my baby boy. In their own little bag with carry handle and with a style inspired by sporty trainers, they are undeniably cute and would make a lovely gift. Cute is all well and good but are they practical and do they serve any purpose?

We put them to the test.

The first thing you notice (once you stop marvelling at the cuteness!) is how well made the Pre Shoes are and how wonderfully soft the leather is. They really are gorgeous.

My boy is 8 months old and just beginning to try and get up on his feet. I asked for the 12 - 18 month size because he is big for his age. I worried that I had made a mistake. The Pre Shoes are generously sized so he probably would have been fine with the size below but once I slipped them on his little feet, they didn't look outrageously big (although there was 'growing room').

Our house has polished wooden floor boards that are quite slippery. Bare feet are almost certainly best for gripping and taking those first tentative little steps holding tight to the furniture but bare feet get cold. Socks keep those little toes cosy but the complete lack of grip makes them hazardous. The Pre Shoes have a durable anti slip suede sole that offers plenty of grip.  In addition to keeping toes snug and warm they enable good sensitivity between foot and ground and the anti slip security. So far, they tick all my boxes.

Using a natural material in the manufacture of the Pre Shoes has the advantage that it allows feet to breathe, keeping them comfortable. We haven't got our shoes dirty yet but they should wipe clean.

The feature that makes these Pre Shoes superior to any other I have tried is that THEY DO NOT FALL OFF.

The Pre Shoes slip on and STAY on thanks to an elasticated band around the ankle. The elastic has plenty of stretch in it to create a comfortable fit, even around my boy's ankles which (and I hope in years to come he will forgive me for saying this!) are extremely chunky.

This is a video of my boy in his Pre Shoes.

So returning to my original question 'are they practical and do they serve any purpose?' - the answer lies in the following adjectives that describe the Pre Shoes: warm, breathable, stylish, well made, non slip, durable, well designed, wearable, comfortable, cute. If I could think of an adjective that means 'don't fall off wriggly feet' I would definitely include that too.

Not only do Pre Shoes get a BIG thumbs up from me, they get a 'foot' up from the baby boy!

I defy you not to find them utterly adorable!

  1. I read a great review on Gingerbread, and now here, so will definitely be getting them. I also decided on that size as Aaron's 8 months and will be 9 in 5 days...
Always in socks, because cloth shoes fall off and/or don't get over the arch of his foot/feet.
